3:16’s Of The Bible
Genesis 3:16: "Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee. "
This speaks of physical birth. Isa 53:3 Christ was a man of sorrows. He suffered, bled, died and rose again to bring forth children unto God. I praise God for my Savior, Lord and King. AMEN!!!
Exodus 3:16: "Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say unto them, The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me, saying, I have surely visited you, and seen that which is done to you in Egypt:"
Chapter 3:17 deals with how God used Moses to bring the children of Israel out of Egypt. How God used plagues to convince Pharaoh that he must let them go. Also, how the people complained and how God dealt with them. Please read the first 20 chapters of Exodus!!! Very important.
Leviticus 3:16: "And the priest shall burn them upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire for a sweet savour: all the fat is the Lord’s."
This was the peace offerings that the children of Israel made unto the Lord. The next several chapters tell of the special offerings made unto the Lord for the people.
Numbers 3:16: "And Moses numbered them according to the word of the Lord, as he was commanded."
Deuteronomy, a review of the other four books, shows Canaan was divided. 3:16: "And unto the Reubenites and unto the Gadites I gave from Gilead even unto the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even unto the river Jabbok, which is the
border of the children of Ammon;"
This shows how Canaan was divided up for the children of Israel as their promised land.
Joshua 3:16: "That the waters which came down from above stood and rose up upon an heap very far from the city Adam, that is beside Zaretan: and those that came down toward the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, failed, and were cut off: and the people passed over right against Jericho."
This shows that God is able and will provide a way for His people. This was a miracle and shows God’s power and that God’s word is sure. Philippians 4:19 "But my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in Glory by Christ Jesus."
Judges 3:16: "But Ehud made him a dagger which had two edges, of a cubit length; and he did gird it under his raiment upon his right thigh."
This reminds us that we have a two edged sword which is the word of God ‘the Bible’, as we use it we pierce the heart of sinners and it cuts both ways to bring conviction so they will get saved by Grace through Faith in Jesus Christ, who was also pierced for the sins of the world. May we use this sword each day we live.
Ruth 3:16: "And when she came to her mother in law, she said, Who art though, my daughter? And she told he all that the man had done to her."
Ruth gleaned in the field of Boaz and she later became his wife.
1 Samuel 3:16: "Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I."
Paul said, "By Grace I am what I am!!! Samuel told him "it is the Lord". The Lord speaks to all people. He speaks in various ways with them. By visions, dreams, prophets, pastors, evangelists, and written word; especially the Holy Bible. Every person needs to hear and be obedient. Trust and Obey!!!
2 Samuel 3:16: "And her husband went with her along weeping behind her to Bahurim. Then said Abner unto him, Go, return. And he returned."
This is a case where the King David took another man’s wife, one of his sins, among many.
1 Kings 3:16: "Then came there two women, that were harlots, unto the king, and stood before him."
This whole chapter shows the wisdom God gave to King Solomon. Verse 16 presents the King with a great problem. He shows great wisdom in dealing with it. These women were fussing about their babies. Then verses 24-28 shows wisdom. He shows who the real mother was. Solomon said, "let us take this baby and cut it into and give half to each mother. The real mother cried out "No! No!" She received her baby.
2 Kings 3:16: "And he said, Thus saith the Lord, Make this valley full of ditches."
The people were thirsty. The great prophet Elisha got a message from the Lord and a miracle was performed. When they obeyed they had water.
1 Chronicles 3:16: "And the sons of Jehoiakim: Jeconiah his son, Zedekiah his son."
Zedekiah, a king of Judah. He was a great King. He was in the line of David.
2 Chronicles 3:16: "And he made chains, as in the oracle, and put them on the heads of the pillars; and made an hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains."
In building Solomon’s temple all the most precious and most costly things were used to build it. The pomegranate was one of them.
Nehemiah 3:16: "After him repaired Nehemiah the son of Azbuk, the ruler of the half part of Bethzur, unto the place over against the sepulchers of David, and to the pool that was made, and unto the house of the mighty."
Nehemiah was one of those that worked to build the Temple. It took a host of skilled workers.
Job 3:16: "Or as an hidden untimely birth I had not been; as infants which never saw light."
In all Job’s troubles he curses the day he was born. The whole chapter deals with it.
Proverbs 3:16: "Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour."
Here the whole chapter is speaking of WISDOM that comes from our God.
Long life and the exercise of wisdom go together. The 35th verse says "The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools." Psalm 14:1 "The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God…" You cannot study the book of Proverbs without getting wisdom. It pays dearly to study it!!!
Ecclesiastes 3:16: "And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there."
This verse shows the depravity of sinners and that sin is universal.
Isaiah 3:16: "Moreover the Lord saith, Because the daughters of Zion are haughty, and walk with stretched forth necks and wanton eyes, walking and mincing as they go, making a tinkling with their feet:"
This verse is talking about the punishment of the women for their pride. You need to read the whole chapter to get the lesson on pride.
Jeremiah 3:16: "And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the Lord, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the Lord: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more."
Read verse 17 and you see that these verses 16, 17 etc., you will see it is talking about a universal King. Jesus Christ our Savior will be that King.
Lamentations 3:16: "He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones, he hath covered me with ashes."
Ezekiel 3:16: "And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,"
This verse shows that the word of God is inspired by the Holy Spirit. That is why we can believe it, and practice as we are born again and led by the Holy Spirit.
Daniel 3:16: "Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the King, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter.
The king had made a decree that everyone was to bow down to the image and worship a false god. These three men refused to bow and were put into a furnace of fire. God protected them so they were not burned. Our God will deliver us from the devils fire. We must bow only to the true and living God by trusting Jesus, our personal Savour and Lord.
Joel 3:16: "The Lord also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the lord will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel."
The Lord is our strength!!!
The Lord is our hope!!!
The Lord is our all and in all!!!
He is so good to us!!!
Nahum 3:16: "Thou hast multiplied they merchants above the stars of heaven: the cankerworm spoileth, and fleeth away."
This is just one of the plagues of many that God pronounced upon the city of Nineveh after they backslid and after the preaching of Jonah. Woe is pronounced upon them. Complete ruin is foretold. America better wake up and seek God’s face!!! His wrath is real!!!
Habakkuk 3:16: "When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops."
This is a part of the prophets prayer for God’s mercy upon the city, a very wicked one; "Woe unto him that giveth his neighbor drink", "Woe unto the USA for approving A.B.C. and strong drink"
Zephaniah 3:16: "In the day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, let not thine hands be slack."
Verses 14-20 tells of the future glory of Israel, when Jehovah shall deliver his people, and cause them to become famous throughout the earth.
Malachi 3:16: "Then they that feared the Lord spake often one to another: and the Lord hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the Lord, and that thought upon his name."
Verses 16 and 17 speak of God’s people as jewels. Surely, all of God’s children are very precious in His sight. More precious that any and all jewelry made by man. So it pays to trust and obey Him. The more perfectly we trust and obey, the more precious we are in His sight.
Some short books in the Old Testament don’t have a 3:16, so here are a couple of other verses I thought interesting.
Amos 3:15: "And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the Lord."
Read the whole book. You will find He is pronouncing judgment on them for their disobedience. God will judge America and all nations for their sins and disobedience. Every Christian has a God given call and responsibility to witness!!!
Jonah 4:3: "Therefore now, O Lord, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live."
Disappointed, oppressed, praying to die. He got swallowed by a big fish because he ran from God. He repented and God delivered him. He went and preached as God said. God had mercy on Nineveh, then Jonah pouted about it. He may be called the pouting prophet. Disobeying God is very serious! It brings judgment and chastisement ! God wants faithful and obedient people. He will bless and bless and bless!!!
Matthew 3:16: "And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water; and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him;"
Verse 17 "And, lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." John 1:32, John saw the Spirit descending from Heaven like a dove and it abode upon Him. Jesus is the one which baptizes with the Holy Ghost.
Mark 3:16: "And Simon he surnamed Peter;"
He was one of the 12 apostles.
Luke 3:16: "John answered, saying unto them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire:"
John 3:16: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
This verse is considered by many to be the golden text of the Bible. It is golden. "Whosoever" just any person in the whole wide world, only one condition, he or she must believe in Him, Jesus Christ. "Believeth" the th on believe means we start out believing and we keep on believing. The word TRUST describes believing best. When we trust we throw ourselves in or on whatever we believe in. I trust the floor so I walk on it. I trust the chair so I sit in it. I trust Christ so I keep myself in His hands to save and keep me.
Acts 3:16: "And his name through faith in his name made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by hi hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all."
Romans 3:16: "Destruction and misery are in their ways:"
Verses 10-18 and the whole chapter are talking about the total depravity of mankind apart from the Grace of God. Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." 1 John 1:10 "If we say we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.
1 Corinthians 3:16: "Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?"
1 Corinthians 3:17 "If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are."
2 Corinthians 3:15-16: "But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart. Nevertheless when it (Israel) shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away."
The vail was their Spiritual blindness. Verse 17 "… where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." Yes!!! Jesus Christ, by His Holy Spirit sets us free. Forgiven and set free from our past sins and by His Holy Spirit we can be free and have liberty, joy, and peace in our lives daily.
Galatians 3:16: "Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one. And to thy seed, which is Christ." Verse 22 "But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe." Verse 24 "Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith." So we are saved by Grace through Faith in Christ Jesus. Verse 26 " For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus,"
Ephesians 3:16 is in the middle of a long sentence. Verses 14 through 19. Verse 14 "For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." The Father loves us and gave His only begotten Son (John 3:16). Verse 15 "Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named," Verse 16 " That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; Verse 17 "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love," Verse 18 "May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;" Verse 19 "And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God." These verses are all one long sentence. The purpose of which is "That we might be filled with all the fullness of God." We are His family.
Philippians 3:16: "Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing."
This verse is somewhat of a summary of the chapter which teaches us as believers how to walk before God and man.
Colossians 3:16: "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord."
2 Thessalonians 3:16: "Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all."
1 Timothy 3:16: "And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory."
2 Timothy 3:16: "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" Verse 17 "That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."
What a great scripture for pastors especially. But for all Christians and sinners alike. We all are in need on a daily basis for the meat of the word. So that we can live right and to carry out the great commission. Matthew 28: 18-20 and Mark 16:15-18 "Go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature."
Yes!!! Let it be done in the home, on the streets, in the business places, in Church buildings, in our USA, in every nation in the world, in our schools, colleges, universities, and in every place where people live. This is the only answer!!!
Hebrews 3:16: This whole chapter is speaking of the preeminence of Christ above all other prophets. "For some, when they had heard, did provoke: howbeit not all that came out of Egypt by Moses."
They provoked God by their unbelief. Verse 17 tell us that they grieved God because of their unbelief. In so doing they died. "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 3:23) Yes, sins penalty is DEATH. Each and every sin brings death. Death to some blessing God has for all who sin. There is always a consequence for every sin. The sin of rejecting Christ as Saviour and Lord is Hell!!! All people go to the lake of fire that fail to receive Christ as their Saviour!!! Take Heed!!!
James 3:16: "For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work."
We are living in a confused world where envying and strife is abounding and all kinds of EVIL and CONFUSION has taken over plus STRIFE in families, churches, businesses, clubs, communities, counties, states, nations, false religions, secret orders, clubs, unions, etc. Verse 17 is in order when put into practice!!! It is the answer for all STRIFE, CONFUSION & EVIL, YES!!! And all works of Satan. But the wisdom that is from above is first PURE, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits. Read Galatians 5:22 without partiality, and without HYPROCRSY . "And the fruit of the righteousness is peace of them that make peace."
1 Peter 3:16: Read verse 15 first. Verse 16 "Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ."
Verse 17 "For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing." Titus 2:7a "In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works…" Unbelievers, wicked men and women will always be against Christ and His people. 1 Peter 2:15 "For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men." Those who live right in the sight of God will surely be rewarded in this life, also in the life to come!!! So let us be true to Christ!!!
2 Peter 3:16 Verses 15 and 16 go together here. Verse 15 "And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom giveth unto him hath written unto you; (16) As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, whey they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction".
Ignorance of the Bible is the great sin of most church people. They may be well learned in most other areas of learning but very ignorant of the best book in all the world. The Bible is worth more to mankind than anything else in the whole world. The Devil, old Satan, is against the Bible. False religions are against the Bible. It exposes their ignorance. No one is well learned apart from the Bible.
1 John 3:16: "Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren."
Brotherly LOVE is God’s way of letting the world know that He loves them. First I give you some references on Brotherly Love. Proverbs 10:12, 1 Corinthians 13:1, Galatians 5:13, Philemon 1:9,
1 Thessalonians 1:9, 1 Peter 4:8, 1 John 2:10; 4:21. In Matthew 22:39, Jesus said "…Thou shalt love they neighbor as thyself." John 13:35 "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another." John 15:12 "This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you."
He laid down His life for us. Example, 1 Samuel 18:3 "Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul." 2 Corinthians 12:15 "And I will very gladly spend and be spent for you; though the more abundantly I love you, the less I be loved."
Revelation 3:16: "So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth."
Do you know of anything in the world more unsightly or repulsive than to see a person throw up or vomit? When we are LUKEWARM we are repulsive to God. Unless we get hot, boiling over for Him, He is subject to vomit us up. After all, we, as true believers in Him, are in Him and He is in us by His Spirit. He can throw us into Hell or He can take us to Heaven. Just which way do you want to go?
This lukewarmness describes our churches today, chastise us, Oh God, so we will trust and obey the great commission in Mark 15-18 "….Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature" not mine but God’s order!!! Micah had no 3:16 so I will use 3:12 "Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest." He preached judgment on all their sins. He is one of the minor prophets but his message is not minor. Read the book, you will find their sins were similar to USA!!! Jonah 2:1 "Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord is God out of the fish’s belly." A very unusual place and time to pray. Like most people today who wait until we get in serious trouble to pray!!! Like Jonah running from God!!! Sin of omission.
Did you know that God has a big fish waiting for you and me when we run from or disobey Him? The big fish may be chastisement in the form of unusual things happening to us!!!
Psalm had no 3:16 so I will use the shortest chapter which is Psalm 117, only two verses. "O praise the Lord, all ye nations: praise him, all ye people. For his merciful kindness is great toward us: and the truth of the Lord endureth for ever. Praise ye the Lord." This is one of those psalms given to us by the Holy Spirit that is ‘short and sweet’. Praise the Lord for all of His word, all of it is very sweet. Psalm 19:10 "More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb." Honey for the taste and desires of our bodies, very good for us. Gold for our lust for things, not always best for us. We must choose Christ who said I am the word and I am the way, truth and life!!!
2 John and 3 John had no 3:16. They are short but very important for our instruction. Let me encourage each person who reads this 3:16 writing to read and re-read 2 & 3 John!!!
All that has been written here is for our GOOD & GOD’S GLORY.
May God richly bless all of His children is my prayer.
By Rashie Kennedy
1 Thessalonians did not have a 3:16 so let us look at 4:16-17. "For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord." Verse 15 lets us know He is coming again!!! Verse 18 tells how to practice verses 15-17. "Wherefore comfort one another with these words."
Read chapter 5:1-13, it tells us to be ready and what to do in order to be ready when He comes.
